Join photographer Katelyn Scott and the Raleigh School of Burlesque for a deeply empowering, hands-on workshop designed to help you create fierce, sexy, confident self-portraits — all by yourself. Whether you’ve ever looked at someone else’s photos and thought “I could never,” struggled to feel comfortable in front of a camera, or simply want to learn how to capture yourself in a way that actually feels powerful and authentic… this workshop is for you. Over the course of three intimate hours, you’ll learn how to take stunning selfies and self-portraits using the tools you already have — including your phone, natural light, mirrors, simple setups, and intentional posing. We’ll explore: Empowered and expressive posing techniques Angles that create confidence and drama Lighting basics for moody, glamorous, and striking photos Facial expression, body language, and storytelling How to feel less awkward and more connected to yourself on camera Creating photos that feel authentic, sensual, artistic, and empowering DIY tricks for taking amazing solo photos at home This is not about perfection. It’s about presence. Confidence. Witnessing yourself differently. Participants will actively take photos during class and have opportunities to experiment with poses, lighting, movement, and creative direction in a supportive, body-positive environment. Expect hands-on guidance, encouragement, laughter, and plenty of “holy shit, THAT’S me?” moments. Feel free to bring: ONE costume or outfit/look ONE prop (feather boa, chair, gloves, flowers, mirror, jacket, etc.) Your phone or camera A willingness to take up space No modeling or photography experience required. All bodies, ages, identities, and experience levels are welcome. Come as you are. Leave with new skills, gorgeous photos, and a completely different way of seeing yourself.

    A Raleigh Burlesque Signature Training Program (Est. 2011 — Newly Expanded for 2026) Step into your confidence, creativity, and authentic expression through the 4-Week Beginners Burlesque Intensive Workshop, Raleigh’s longest-running and most comprehensive burlesque training program. Whether you're brand new to dance or looking to explore the art of burlesque for the first time, this immersive workshop guides you from foundational movement to a fully developed solo act—all within a radically inclusive and supportive learning environment. Since 2011, hundreds of students have graduated from this program. Rhinestone(d) Wednesdays is a super relaxed community craft/open studio night where you can: 💎 work on costuming 🪩 rhinestone projects 💻 catch up on admin 💃 practice choreography 🧵 sew, knit, sketch, or create 👯 network and collaborate 🛋️ or honestly just sit on the couch and vibe with cool people No experience required and you absolutely do NOT need to be a burlesque performer to attend. This space is open to anyone looking for creativity, community, inspiration, and connection. This is the kind of night where people share ideas, help each other with projects, swap resources, make friends, and accidentally stay an extra hour talking about costumes, life, art, and existential crises while covered in glitter.   • FREE Burlesque Movie Night

    Join us for another cozy, creative, community-centered evening at Cell Block #9 for our monthly FREE Burlesque Movie Night! This month we’ll be screening Burlesque: Heart of the Glitter Tribe (2017), a contemporary documentary that follows some of today’s most celebrated burlesque performers as they navigate artistry, identity, vulnerability, glamour, and self-expression both on and off stage. Featuring performers including Jett Adore, Angelique Devil, Zora von Pavonine, Babs Jamboree, Ray Gunn, and more, the film offers an intimate look into the passion and personalities behind the glitter and rhinestones. Rather than focusing on the history of burlesque, this documentary explores the modern burlesque world through candid interviews, behind-the-scenes moments, and stunning stage performances — celebrating the idea that performance and persona can become powerful tools for authenticity and transformation. Whether you’re a longtime performer, a student, or simply burlesque-curious, this is a relaxed and welcoming night to hang out with community. Bring costuming projects, knitting, admin work, homework, sketchbooks, or absolutely nothing at all. Come to create, network, relax, laugh, and enjoy the company of fellow glitter gremlins. ✨ Pajamas welcome 🍿 Popcorn provided 🥂 Bring your own beverages (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) 🌿 420 friendly Movie nights are completely free, but space is limited to 12 guests, so pre-registration is required.   • Perfecting the Peel

    It’s not just what you take off—it’s how you take it off. Gloves and stockings are iconic elements of burlesque, but a truly captivating peel requires intention, control, and a deep understanding of timing. In this hands-on, collaborative workshop, you’ll learn multiple techniques for removing gloves and stockings in ways that are smooth, deliberate, and impossible to look away from. Join Dahlia Vee—known for her impressively clean and satisfying stocking peels—as she guides you through both foundational methods and creative variations. You’ll explore classic techniques for glove and stocking removal, then be encouraged to experiment, adapt, and discover what feels most natural and compelling in your own movement style. This is an active, participation-based class where you’ll practice in real time, receive guidance, and refine your technique in a supportive environment. Whether you prefer slow and sultry, playful and cheeky, or polished and precise, this class will help you elevate one of burlesque’s most essential skills. What to Expect: • Multiple techniques for glove and stocking removal • How to control pacing, tension, and audience focus • Hands-on practice in a collaborative, supportive space • Exploration of both classic and creative peel styles • Guidance on making your reveals intentional and impactful What to Bring: (Some items will be available to borrow.) • Folding or performance chair (highly recommended, not required) • Thigh-high stockings (2 pairs recommended: one pair of stay-ups (silicone grip stockings) and one pair without) • Elbow-length or opera-length gloves About the Instructor: Dahlia Vee is a prominent burlesque performer and instructor based in Raleigh, North Carolina. In 2013, she co-founded the Silk Stocking Sirens alongside Miss Rachel Riot and has performed at festivals across North Carolina and Massachusetts, including the Heavy Rebel Weekender Wiggle Room, Asheville Burlesque & Sideshow Festival, and The Great Burlesque Expo in Boston. She was crowned Queen of Improv at ABS Fest and named North Carolina’s Master of Improv at the 2019 BurlyPicks Regional Showcase. Known especially for her impressive stocking peels, Dahlia blends technical precision with playful creativity in both her performances and her teaching. She produces annual Valentine’s Day Dinner & a Show experiences in in Raleigh and currently teaches at the Raleigh School of Burlesque.
