If you’re booking paid gigs, selling merch, investing in costumes, traveling to shows, or building your performer brand, it might be time to start treating your burlesque career like an actual business. Glitter, Garters & Gross Income is a practical, beginner-friendly business workshop designed specifically for burlesque performers who want to better understand the financial and legal side of their art. Move beyond performance skills and learn about the behind-the-scenes infrastructure that can help you protect your income, stay organized, and build a more sustainable performance career. During this one-hour workshop, Currency will cover forming an LLC and separating personal and business assets; opening a business bank account and why keeping personal and performance income separate matters; getting a business credit card and using it to track performance-related spending; and potential tax write-offs for performers, including costumes, rhinestones, classes and choreography, travel, photography, marketing, rehearsal space, and storage. The class will also include time for questions and practical guidance for getting started with things like LLC formation, EINs, business banking, and other paperwork, plus a reference sheet covering potential write-off categories for performers. This workshop is open to performers at any level, but will be especially useful for anyone beginning to earn money through gigs, merchandise, teaching, producing, or their performer brand and wondering how to turn their art into an actual business.
