This month we’re watching League of Exotique Dancers (2015), directed by Rama Rau. League of Exotique Dancers turns the spotlight on the Living Legends of burlesque — the women who performed professionally during burlesque’s mid-century Golden Age. The documentary follows a group of veteran performers as they return to Las Vegas to take the stage at the Burlesque Hall of Fame’s Legends of Burlesque show. Featuring Toni Elling, Gina Bon Bon, Lovey Goldmine, Delilah Jones, Marinka, Holiday O’Hara, Judith Stein, Kitten Natividad, and other legendary performers, the film combines performance footage, archival material, and firsthand stories from the women who actually lived this chapter of burlesque history. And their stories go far beyond feathers and glamour. The Legends speak candidly about their experiences with racism, sexism, poverty, stigma, sexuality, aging, and what their lives looked like both onstage and away from the spotlight. For burlesque performers and students, it’s a chance to hear the history of the art form directly from the women who lived it — and to learn more about the continuing tradition of honoring our Legends through the Burlesque Hall of Fame. You absolutely do not need to be a performer to join us; anyone interested in burlesque is welcome. Movie Night is casual and community-centered, so feel free to bring something to work on while we watch. Rhinestone a costume, sew, knit, sketch, do homework, catch up on admin, or just curl up and enjoy the movie. Come comfy! Feel free to bring snacks and your beverage of choice, alcoholic or non-alcoholic. We’ll have popcorn, and the space is 420 friendly. Cell Block #9 is a private residential studio near NC State. Space is limited, so RSVP is required. Email Raleigh Burlesque at Gmail to reserve your spot, and the exact address will be provided after you RSVP.

To cancel or reschedule please contact us at least 24 hours before the first class. Minimums & Maximums: Each class has a required minimum and maximum number of students. Minimums are set to ensure instructors are fairly compensated. If a class does not meet minimum enrollment, it may be canceled and all registered students will be notified. No-Shows: Students who do not attend class (no-shows) forfeit their payment. Payments are not refunded or credited. Refunds: We do not provide refunds for any reason. Transfers: Transfers may be offered only with a valid doctor’s note. Without proper documentation, transfers are not permitted. Final Note: Please treat your registration as a commitment to yourself, your classmates, and your instructors. No refunds, no exceptions.
