Whether you're interested in hosting burlesque, drag, variety, comedy, fundraisers, or community events, learning to emcee is one of the most valuable performance skills you can develop. Join acclaimed host Velma Dearwood for this interactive 90-minute workshop exploring the art of commanding a room with confidence, charisma, and professionalism. Through discussion, demonstrations, and hands-on exercises, you'll learn how to connect with an audience, maintain a show's momentum, think on your feet when the unexpected happens, and create memorable experiences for both performers and guests. Open to all experience levels. No prior emceeing experience is required. Topics include: Developing your unique hosting style Microphone technique and stage presence Audience engagement and crowd interaction Timing, pacing, and maintaining the flow of a show Improvisation and handling unexpected situations Working effectively with performers and production teams Professional tips for finding emcee opportunities and building your reputation Whether you're stepping behind the microphone for the first time or looking to sharpen your hosting skills, you'll leave with practical tools you can immediately apply to your next event. About the Instructor Based in Charleston, South Carolina, Velma Dearwood has spent more than ten years performing in drag and the past five years emceeing burlesque, drag, and fetish events throughout the Southeast. Known for their quick wit, engaging stage presence, and ability to keep audiences laughing while keeping productions on track, Velma brings years of real-world hosting experience to this workshop. Their passion for live entertainment shines through in every performance, and they're excited to help the next generation of emcees find their voice and own the stage.

Cancellation Policy
To cancel or reschedule please contact us at least 24 hours before the first class. Minimums & Maximums: Each class has a required minimum and maximum number of students. Minimums are set to ensure instructors are fairly compensated. If a class does not meet minimum enrollment, it may be canceled and all registered students will be notified. No-Shows: Students who do not attend class (no-shows) forfeit their payment. Payments are not refunded or credited. Refunds: We do not provide refunds for any reason. Transfers: Transfers may be offered only with a valid doctor’s note. Without proper documentation, transfers are not permitted. Final Note: Please treat your registration as a commitment to yourself, your classmates, and your instructors. No refunds, no exceptions.
